Lattice Boom Crane Hoist Ropes
This page is all about mobile lattice boom crane hoist ropes and also includes the auxiliary (Aux) hoist rope which is typically used alongside the main hoist rope for positioning load. All steel rope in this section are non-rotating with a Warrington core and compacted in design.

Lattice Boom Crane Hoist Ropes Construction
We have a choice of 8 rope constructions which are suitable for both main hoist and Aux ropes. They have all been fully compacted and constructed in a rotation resistant design so that they will be resistant to spinning when loaded. A load that spins can quickly get out of control and be rather dangerous, thus a rotation resistant or anti-spin rope is ideal for use as hoisting ropes, particularly when used in high rise applications.
The compacted nature of these ropes means that all the strands have been passed through dies to compress them; this flattens out the wires, filling internal voids within each strand and creating a smoother external surface which helps smooth operation over sheaves etc. Because they are compacted they are also much more crush resistant, thus ideal for winding in multiple layers on a hoist drum. Another benefit to a rope being compacted is that you can choose a smaller diameter than one that is not compacted and still get the same breaking strength.
When it comes to the Warrington steel core it means that the central layer is made up from strands with different diameters, laid alternately around a core of equal diameter strands. This enables the strands to nestle into each other and reduce internal voids, this helps to reduce the incidence of internal friction and abrasion.

Other cranes and their ropes
Cranes come in a wide variety of styles which are used in different, often specialised areas. For example a container crane will be used in ports; a tower crane on a high rise construction site or a mobile crane in hard to reach areas. Different ropes will be required for different cranes, with some needing ropes for the hoist, boom, trolley and auxiliary ropes. Rope Services Direct can supply all the commonly used crane ropes in diameters constructions and lengths to suit your requirements. Browse our range and get in touch if you need any help.
